Hong Kong Food Hackathon - Delicious Nutritious #2 (rerun)

by Hong Kong Food Hackathon

20 July (Sat) 16:00-17:00

V1101, 11/F

A collaboration between design students, business, food innovators, futurists and NGOs is launching the second Hong Kong Food Hackathon 20 – 22nd September 2019. Sign up for participation opens 15th June 2019.  This is an event created to innovate and disrupt the food system in a circular economy and open up entrepreneurial and business opportunities on the food supply chain.

This year the weekend’s long creative and innovative session will amplify healthier more nutritious food choices inspired by some of Hong Kong’s favourite foods using plant based and regional ingredients.

How will this work? Take a recipe that many love the taste, yet inherently is either low in nutrition and/or high in salts or sugars. So, it’s not so good for people’s health or that of our living environments. The outcome aims to create a food product that is good for all of us; both delicious and nutritious.

The aim is to use new media channels to support and amplify these innovations, by creating interaction with a wider active audience and create interest in why it’s important to make conscious decisions about your food.

A group of PhD students are working to make this event a reality in the coming months, come and find out more information at this meetup!

Capacity: 50

Conducted in English

Discussion of Information Bias

by Jacky Ho, Communication Design

29 June (Sat) 13:00-16:00

6/F

How happy are you? Three out of ten, five out of ten, or a hundred thousand pieces of happiness?

In the age of high information flow, we seek security and reduce our fear through quantifying the overloaded information, such as happiness index, Body Mass Index, Intelligence Quotient etc. We let artificial intelligence do the work, to analyze the world through numbers in order to eliminate unknowns and instability. Is every piece of information suitable for quantification? Is the action shrewd or blind?

Jacky Ho from the Communication Design discipline is taking you into the discussion on information bias through his project ‘RE quantitative’ at the Annual Show. Come join him in this carefree discussion and exchange ideas together!

Deep Talk with Deep Food

by Cindy Chan Ho Yee

29 June (Sat) 15:00-15:30

Gallery D, P/F

We see enormous potential for creating ‘edible experiences’ through design.  While some global food trends include hype around posting food experiences on social media; a growing mindfulness of food health; and increasing demand for food sustainability – we envision design can play a role in such growing awareness on food.

In light of these opportunities, how might we design food experiences as a medium for ‘deep thinking’?

In this meetup, the Deep Food's team is going to share their ambition on food design with you.
